888 Sport Bookmaker Review

888 home

888 Sport is the online bookmaking arm of 888.com, a veritable powerhouse in the gambling world. That means that they are actually one of the biggest sportsbooks around, even if they haven’t been operating as long as the more established names in the industry. Their USP, if you like, is that they try to find slightly different offers and deals for their customers than some of the more bog-standard bookies around.

The odds are always always good value and if you’re a casual gambler with stakes of £10, £20 or £50 or so then you’re not going to be too short-changed here. The main thing you’ll be interested to know is what you can bet on, and on that front you’re sorted. 888 Sport go deep when it comes to the different sports they cover, so it will be a particularly niche market you’re after if you can’t find odds on something here. Have you ever been interested in betting on Finnish handball, for example?

Welcome Offer - Treble The Odds Any Bet Up To £5,000

888 Sport’s welcome offer is a bit different to the sort of thing offered by most other betting sites. New customers get treble odds - yes, three times the odds - on their first bet stake up to a maximum of £10. The original odds are paid into your account as cash, should you win, with the additional winnings being paid as free bet tokens up to a maximum vlaue of £5,000.  If you don't win they will also give you a stake refund as a £10 free bet.

How To Claim

All you need to do to take advantage of this offer is register as a new customer, make a deposit and then place a bet with real money of at least £5 (that can be £2.50 each way). You can place a bet of more than £10 but only £10 worth of it will be valid for the treble odds deal.

What Deposit Methods Are Valid For The 3x Odds Offer?

It’s important to note that if you place your deposit with Neteller, Skrill or Moneybookers then you won’t qualify for this promotion. Your best way of being guaranteed acceptance for the offer is the deposit money from your bank or via Paypal.

How The Treble Odds First Bet Works

Once you’ve opened your account you’ll have 90 days to make your first deposit. As long as you then bet a minimum of £5 on something you’ll get treble odds on the market. That means that if you placed a £10 bet on something with odds of 10/1, for example, you’d receive £100 as cash into your account. You’d then get £200 in free bet tokens within 72 hours of the bet being settled.

The offer will apply to the bet that you place that is the first to qualify; it must also be the only bet on your bet slip when you place it. The bet must be settled within one year of placing it too.

Regular 888 Sport Promotions

888 promo

There are three main betting offers that 888 Sport have running most of the year. The first is a really fun one called ‘Free Bet Saturday’. The clue is in the title with this offer, but just in case you’re not sure this is where you can get a free bet on a Saturday…

All you need to do to qualify is place three in-play bets of at least £10 on a Bundesliga, La Liga, Scottish Premier League or Premier League game that is playing on that Saturday. In return you’ll get a free £5 in-play bet that can be used on the Sunday. You’ll qualify for this offer as long as your three in-play bets are placed with cash and have minimum odds of 1/2 (1.5).

The next one is a horse racing offer that will have anyone who has seen their horse beaten by a long-odds competition jumping for joy. The Donkey Kong’d offer will see your win or each-way bet of up to £25 refunded as a free bet if your chosen horse is beaten by a ‘donkey’ with SP odds of 20/1 or longer. As long as your bet is a minimum of £5 you can get it back if your horse is pipped to the post by one that even its owner wouldn’t bet on…

The final regular promotion worth mentioning is the Goals Bonanza. We’ve all been there; you’re feeling good about your goal scorer bet only for it be scuppered when the match turns into an absolute goals-fest. Well now you don’t need to be stressed any more if the goals start flying in. 888 Sport will refund a real money, pre-match bet of £5 or more on first last or anytime goal scorers if it loses in a match that features five or more goals. You’ll get a maximum of £25 back in bets placed on top-league matches in England, Scotland, Spain or Germany as well as in the Champions League.

Desktop Site

888 desktop

The 888 Sport desktop site has pros and cons to it, to be honest. On the downside it’s actually quite a cluttered affair that can be quite difficult to navigate if you’re not a regular gambler. The main page of the sportsbook is populated with current games, the next races and matches that are trending within the gambling community. That makes it a busy, confusing page with the main sports you want to bet on quite hard to find. The fact that the company has the same colour scheme as Easyjet also gives a feeling of cheapness to it, in my opinion.

The plus side is unquestionably the search function. You can type in something as specific as the team that you want to bet on or you can be as vague as merely naming a sport. You’ll then be given the options for the category you’ve chosen. Say you type, for example, table tennis. You’ll be presented with upcoming matches - complete with a countdown to when they begin if they’re starting soon - as well as any upcoming matches that you might not otherwise know about. It’s genuinely very handy and impressive.

888 Sport Mobile App

The mobile app actually has most of the same functionality and appearance of the website but it’s much more user friendly.

You can jump quickly to a specific sport or league using the menu button, or there’s also a similar search bar as on the desktop site if you’d prefer to head where you’re going that way. The home page shows all of those live and upcoming matches that are on the main site but it’s a lot cleaner in a small space.

I definitely prefer using the app, personally.

Live Betting

888 live

There are a whole host of live betting options available, especially to football fans. There are obvious options like next goal, next goal scorer and who will win the match. Yet there are also some more interesting things like Asian Handicaps and Double Chance odds.

If you’re betting on the football, for example, but can’t watch it live then there’s an interesting graphic that will keep you up to date with the action. It tries to give you a sense of what’s going on, telling you which team is in possession, whether the ball has gone out of play and when the attack is a dangerous one. It’s like Championship Manager but a bit more exciting.

Live Streaming

Live streaming is available on the 888 Sport website, as you’d expect, but it’s also on your mobile device and tablet via the app. Interestingly, 888 Sport don’t require you to place a bet on the action in order to take advantage of the live streaming function - something most other bookies require of you.

Instead all you need to do is have placed a bet of £1 or more within the previous 24 hours or have money in your account. Not bad, really.

Markets and Odds

As mentioned before, it is the depth of the markets that are covered by 888 Sport that will impress most punters. You won’t be surprised to learn that they cover all of the main markets like football, tennis and rugby. You might not expect them to cover slightly less popular things such as Aussie rules football and UFC. But you will almost certainly be impressed by the in-depth nature of all of these markets. Fancy betting on Mexican Pacific League baseball?

This probably isn’t the place to come if you like novelty bets on things like politics or TV shows. They’ll have them, but the name gives you the clue about where their specialism lies - this is a sports book first and foremost. That doesn’t mean you won’t be able to bet on the next American President or who will win an Emmy, but you might struggle to get odds on the winner of the Academy Award for Best Sound Editing.

The standard odds on 888 Sport aren’t the best in the market, there’s no point pretending otherwise. But it’s not usually vastly different and you’ll probably only be particularly concerned if you’re betting in the thousands and thousands of pounds market and even a couple of pence could make a major different to your winnings.

Banking

Of course you can’t place a bet without depositing some money so here’s some info on the methods available to you and the fees each method incurs:

  • Debit Card: No fee (min deposit £10)
  • Credit Card: No fee (min deposit £10)
  • Paypal: No fee (min deposit £10)
  • PaySafeCard: No fee (min deposit £10)
  • Bank Transfer: No fee (min deposit £10 for BACS, £100 for Wire Transfer)
  • Neteller: No fee (min deposit £10)

Other 888 Products

Given that 888 Sport is a gambling behemoth, it will surprise absolutely nobody that they have an all-encompassing range of other products. Even people that don’t tend to like the company’s sportsbook still rave about the casino, with 888poker also being one of the best in the business. Put it this way, if you like to have a flutter on a range of things then joining the 888.com network is an excellent place to start.

About 888 Sport

888 sportThe company was originally founded as Virtual Holdings Limited, launching Casino-on-Net in 1997. Ran by a group of Israeli businessmen, the company was re-launched in 2002 as 888 Holdings. 888 Sport itself wasn’t launched until 2008 as part of the company’s subsidiary branch Cassava Enterprises Ltd. It joined the 888 umbrella properly in 2010.

The bookmaker has sponsorship deals with numerous sports team. Birmingham City Football Club is one of the main ones, though 888 Sport.com also sponsors a stand at Reading’s Madejski Stadium and Nottingham Forest’s City Ground. They’ve also taken a few celebrity endorsements on over the years, with Ian Wright being a pundit for them during the 2012 European Championships and Emma Spencer becoming their horse racing expert back in 2014.

Pros

The mobile site is a definite pro for 888 Sport. You might not love their colour scheme but there can be no getting away from the fact that the mobile and tablet app is better than their website. The depth to which they cover the sports that they cover is also very impressive. On both the desktop site and the mobile app the search function is excellent.

Cons

The biggest negative thing about 888 Sport for me personally is the website. I’m a fan of clean, easy to use interfaces and I’m not convinced that they’ve got one. It’s horses for courses, though, and what is one man’s Marmite is another’s crumpets with butter. In other words, I’m not a fan but you might be.

Licence & Contact Details

The customer services team at 888 Sport is about what you’d expect for a top-level betting company. You can call them on a free phone number, email their support team or send them mail directly. I have to say that their Twitter game is good, as is there general social media management. Quick to respond and game for a laugh, if you’re a social media fiend you’ll not be disappointed on that front.

Licence wise the reference number is 39028 and they are based in Gibraltar.
