BetVictor Bookmaker Review

bv home

BetVictor, formerly known as Victor Chandler, are one of my favourite bookmakers. There is a classiness to their whole set-up that permeates its way through the website and the app. The company was set-up in 1946 by the son of the man who opened Walthamstow Greyhound Stadium, so it’s fair to say that the world of betting runs through the blood of the family.

Over the years the company has searched for the best name to attract punters, going from Victor Chandler to VC, back to Victor Chandler and then finally settling on the name BetVictor in 2012. They were one of the first bookies to hit the online market, doing so in 1999; a year after the company was moved to Gibraltar in order to help it avoid paying UK taxes. Gordon Brown’s decision to abolish gambling taxes as Chancellor of the Exchequer in 2001 was apparently mostly fuelled by Chandler’s move abroad.

Welcome Offer - Bet £10 Get £30 Sports & £10 Casino

The welcome offer is, in my opinion, one of the best around. That’s mainly because you get good bang for your buck combined with decent flexibility in how your use the free money. You need to ‘opt-in’ when you open your account and then place a bet of £10 or more on anything with odds of Evens (2.0) or greater. You’ll then receive £30 free in Sports Free Bets and a £30 casino bonus. That’s an impressive 400% markup on your initial outlay.

How To Claim

Just make sure you opt-in to the offer when opening your account. Within seven days of doing so you’ll then need to play a bet worth £10 or more on any market with odds of Evens (2.0) or more. It really is that simple. The only thing that will stop your from getting your Bonus Funds and Free Bets is if your bet is cashed out.

What Deposit Methods Are Valid For The Bonuses?

You can use all of the usual methods for your deposit, such as credit cards and debit cards, but if you use Moneybookers / Skrill or Neteller then you won’t qualify for it, sadly.

How The 3x £10 Sports FRee BEts Work

Once you’ve placed a valid bet, having already opted in to receive the offer, you’ll find three Sports Free Bets credited to your account within two working days.  Each free token is worth £10 each, one is for use on anything, one is for use on any in play markets and the last one can be used on any multiple bet with 5 or more sections. Each of the three tokens are valid for seven days each with all winnings in cash.

How The £10 Casino Bonus Works

The £10 free casino bonus is valid for three days, so use this soon, and the amount be wagered 40x over to convert this to real cash.  For more terms see the BetVictor site.

Regular BetVictor Promotions

bv promo

There are three main offers that BetVictor run regularly that are worthy of your attention. The first is a promise to always have the best price on football accumulators with five or more legs. You don’t even need to do anything special to benefit from this offer. Simply place a five fold or more acca and if it wins BetVictor will check to see whether you could have got better odds from the likes of Bet365, William Hill or Coral. If you could then they’ll pay you the difference in cash.

Another decent promotion is their Acca Insurance. This involves you getting your stake back up to the value of £10 if one leg of a five+ fold accumulator lets you down. The stake is refunded as Bonus Funds that are available for seven days. Much like with the welcome offer you can use the bonus funds to place a number of smaller bets if you don’t want to place another big one.

BetVictor also have regular free bets at the weekend. These change all of the time to keep them fresh, but you’ll usually find things such as offers promising £10 in free Bonus Funds if you place a £5 bet. The variety is what makes this such a nifty promotion as you’re never sure what you’re going to get but you know it’ll be something good.

Desktop Site

bv desktop

I’m a big fan of the BetVictor website. It’s modern, clean and really easy to navigate. There are four tabs at the top so you can get to things like their casino or offers pages really easily. If you click on the Sports tab you’ll then reveal a couple more, including the in-play matches, football and horse racing options.

The Sports homepage also gives you featured links, the most regular pages you personally tend to visit and a list of all sports that BetVictor cover. There are also lists of enhanced prices for the day, when the next horse racing meetings are due to go off and any live matches you might want to bet on. The only negative I can find is the lack of a search function. The simplicity of the site might not be for everyone but it is very much for me.

Mobile App

Those of you that like to bet on your phone will be pleased to know that BetVictor have continued the usability of the desktop site over to their mobile app. Again, it’s clean, simple to use and really easy to navigate. You can even give the app a pin number to make it easier to logon to whilst maintaining its security.

The app is similar in layout to the main site, with the same tabs at the top and corresponding options underneath each one. There’s also a dropdown menu that lets you easily navigate your way to your account, including a quick link to open bets. Again there’s no search function, but there is the ability to select favourites such as the Premier League, meaning you can move quickly to what you like to bet on the most.

Live Betting

bv live

BetVictor make a big deal of their live betting, having the in-play options take a prominent place on the homepage of their website and mobile app. There is a prominence given to football but a quick scroll down will see links to a host of other sports including tennis, cricket, basketball and volleyball - depending which events are taking place at the time.

As with most of the decent bookies there are nice little graphics at the top of the individual match page telling you what’s happening at any given moment. You can view it in a mode that give you the impression of watching a game in the old style management games on the computer or in a written list of the action. Where it lets itself down is in the lack of relevant stats, giving you the bear minimum necessary.

Live Streaming

You can live stream UK and Irish horse racing through BetVictor as long as you’ve placed a bet of £1 or more on the race you want to watch. Unfortunately that’s about the limit of the live streaming options, which is a bit naff if you like to bet on other sports. It’s also quite difficult to find the live streaming option on the main site, though it’s nice and easy to locate if you’re using the mobile app.

Markets and Odds

BetVictor are particularly good when it comes to their football betting. There are loads of lines within each game, all laid out nice and clearly, and they offer some of the best odds on football matches too. The rest of their market is reasonably good, though they don’t offer many novelty bets if that’s the sort of thing you like. Sportswise, though, there are loads of things covered including the likes of MMA, Gaelic football, speedway and even table tennis.

They don’t do loads of enhanced odds offers or anything like that, but they probably feel that the fact that they’re always near the top of the ‘best odds’ section on odds comparison sites means they don’t really need to. All-in-all if you’re looking for a site that offers plenty of different sports markets with the best value odds then you’ll not go too far wrong with BetVictor.

Banking

BetVictor don’t charge a fee for any method of deposit, which is a nice change from some of the other bookies. The only thing that differs is the minimum deposit, with debit and credit cards, Skrill, Neteller, PaySafeCards and Entroay all ask you to pay in at least £5. Meanwhile PayPal asks for £10 and you’ll need to pay in at least £20 if you want to make a bank transfer.

About BetVictor

betvictorWilliam Chandler opened Walthamstow Greyhound Stadium back in 1925. Interestingly the bookmaking operation that uses his family name was technically nothing to do with him as it was opened by his son in 1946. His son, as you might have guessed, was called Victor Chandler and he ran the operation of the business until he died suddenly in 1975.

At that point his son took over the business, though he didn’t even need new business cards as he was also called Victor Chandler. The older Victor had opened a series of shops in the South East ding the 1960s but is son thought a bit further afield, targeting foreign markets before opening an office in Antigua in order to be able to attract clients from the Far East. Nowadays they operate in over 160 countries their online operation is one of the best in the business.

Pros

The great odds offered by BetVictor, especially on the football, are a major pro. You’re unlikely to find a better price with another bookie and knowing that makes life decidedly easy for you when it comes to wondering who to place a bet with. The company’s website and app are also both brilliant and, in my opinion, probably the best out there. If you like a nice, clean and easy to navigate website then BetVictor will be for you.

Cons

There’s no easy way to say this, but BetVictor have long had a murky relationship when it comes to paying tax in the UK. If you’re the sort of person who likes to take a moral stance against that sort of thing and has refused to buy from Amazon or drink a Starbucks in the past then this is worth bearing in mind. they’re doing nothing wrong, of course, and everything is entirely legal. It’s just that they’ve found a loophole that some people might have a problem with. The flip side is that this is probably why they can offer such good odds.

License & Contact Details

BetVictor’s customer service is very good. You can get hold of them any time of day or night all week long. They’re available by email, over the phone, by posting a letter or by the ever more important ‘live chat’ function on their website. Their Twitter and Facebook game is reasonably good, getting back to people with decent speed over account issues and so on.

The company is registered in Gibraltar, which means that they are regulated by the gaming commission over there. They have a full UK gambling license too, though, so they’re also bound by the rules of the gambling commission over here. That makes them a perfectly safe book to place your bets with, just in case you’re wondering. Their UK license reference number is 39576.

Should you wish to sent them a letter or get in touch with them in some way then the postal address for their customer services centre: BetVictor, Leanse Place, 50 Town Range, Gibraltar, GX11 1AA.
