Betway Bookmaker Review

betway home

Betway was launched in 2006. Though they are based in Malta they actually have a much international flavour to them than many bookies. They’ve got offices in Stockholm, South Africa Guernsey and, of course, London. It goes without saying that they have a UK gambling license else I wouldn’t be writing about them, but you may also be interested to know that they hold licenses in Denmark, Italy, Spain, Germany, Belgium and their home state of Malta.

Perhaps this international feel is why their sportsbook is so impressive, with an array of different markets on offer. It’s also likely to be part of the reason that they have such a slick operation in place; you don’t want to be trying to appeal to a broad range of bettors with a system that is anything other than top-notch. As well as covering all of the usual markets they also have live streaming and in-play betting to keep your attention. They’re a strong all-rounder.

Desktop Site

betway desktop

Betway’s desktop site is one of the best in business in my opinion. It looks great, which is always a big help yet is not guaranteed even for some of the biggest bookies around. It’s also quick to respond to whatever requests you make of it and it gives you a lot of information on every page without being so busy that you can’t tell what’s going on. That’s possibly down to the black and white colour scheme with some green thrown in just to mix things up a bit.

At the very top of the homepage you’ll find quick links to the sportsbook, casino, in-play betting and more. A trip to the sports section presents you with the day’s most relevant offers right at the top in an unmissable banner as well as quick links to the most popular bets on the left. There’s a list of all sports covered by Betway underneath that, whilst the centre of the page is dominated by any in-play events that you’ll want to know about. It’s sleek and smart and though some people might think they’re too keen to drown you with their offers I like it.

Mobile App

In theory I should like the mobile app just as much as the website. After all it follows a similar design and is just as quick at responding to instruction and doing what I want it to. Yet for some reason I’m not quite as keen on it as I am on the desktop site. It might be because they’ve abandoned the white writing on black background in favour of black writing on a white background. This makes it look less sleek and interesting and perhaps slightly cheaper.

Of course what most people are interested in is not what it looks like but how it works and on this front there are no real complaints from me. You’ve still got the links to the casino, sportsbook and in-play section along the top as well as current live events in the main body of the home screen. Links to favourite sports are towards the top and you can find all sports covered in a pull-out menu. There’s also a search function, should you be looking for something specific.

Live Betting

betway live

Betway are very proud of their in-play betting system and rightly so. It is easy to use, clear and simple to understand. There are links to the live betting part of their site on every page and when you go there you’ll find every live event on offer down the lefthand side of the page. The centre has the live events broken up into their respective sports.

Clicking on an event will take you to the betting markets and there are plenty to consider for big events. There’s also a nice graphic at the top of most sports telling you what’s going on at any given moment. Of all the bookies I use I think Betway’s live betting might be my favourite.

Live Streaming

Live streaming is available on numerous different sports. As I type there are two different snooker matches being covered, with horse racing also on offer. For the latter you need to bet a minimum of £2 to live stream it. Betway do a good job of letting you know if there’s a live stream available, so don’t be worried that you’re missing something.

Markets and Odds

Betway’s market range is impressive, with the international influence I mentioned earlier clearly on display when it comes to the depth of their coverage of individual sports. There aren’t many unusual sports themselves on offer, but you’ll be able to bet on the likes of Azerbaijani matches in football, for example.

Odds-wise is where Betway really shows their strength. They are continuously up at the top end on odds comparison sites, so you should definitely have a look at what they’ve got to offer if you’re looking to place a few bets on a number of different events.

You can use virtually all of the common methods for placing a deposit, including debit and credit cards and PayPal.

Things such as Neteller, Skrill and PaySafeCards are also welcome. Entropay, ecoPayz and bank transfers are also valid deposit methods and there’s a £10 minimum deposit on all methods apart from PaySafe, which you’re free to deposit any amount you’re like with.

None of them are subject to fees.

Other Betway Products

Betway are something of a one-stop shop with their online system. It’s not just their sportsbook that you’ll want to use, with a casino, a live casino and a Vegas themed casino  all available too. On top of that there’s live poker, a bingo section and even eSports for you to bet on.

About Betway

betwayBetway are an online only operation and they’ve put all of their efforts into making themselves one of the best online bookies in the business. Part of the larger Betway Group, the sportsbook has earned itself name recognition in the UK particularly through sponsorship deals. Back in 2014 they signed a three-year deal to sponsor Premier League Darts and they were also one of the main sponsors of the Groves v Froch fight that took place at Wembley Stadium.

The following year they made an agreement to be the sponsor of the UK Snooker Championship for three years and also became a principle partner of West Ham United Football Club. This latter deal was extended in 2016 when the Hammers moved to the London Olympic Stadium and the deal was improved to be worth around £10 million a year. This includes shirt sponsorship as well as branding around the ground.

The depth of their market coverage and the impressive odds offered are two of the most important parts of Betway’s service. The fact that they are so competitive on the odds front, particularly, should interest you. I always think it’s worth having a number of bookmakers on your list so you can compare and contrast what they’re offering when you go to place a bet. The fact that Betway wins my custom more often than not speaks volumes, I think.

I don’t love their mobile app. Don’t get me wrong, there’s not an awful lot wrong with it and if you’re the sort of person that values function over form then you’d be silly not to use it. I just like a little more more from my mobile apps and I find Betway’s to be underwhelming. Their desktop site is much more to my taste, though I wouldn’t argue with you if you said you didn’t like the fact that they’re not subtle in flogging their latest deals and offers. Then again, why wouldn’t you want to see them?

License & Contact Details

You can get hold of the Betway customer service team 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They’re available on both live chat and the telephone and they’re very polite and knowledgeable. I’m yet to have a question, query or problem that they haven’t been able to take care of quickly and efficiently. You’ll get no complaints from me on this front.

Betway have a solid Twitter game to boast about, too. They constantly keep you up-to-date with whatever event is the flavour of the day and also tweet out competitions that give you a chance to win free bets and so on. If you’re the sort of person that likes a bit of social media interaction then you’ll be pleased with their Twitter and Facebook work.

When it comes to the important stuff like UK Gambling Commission registration you should know that Betway are covered. Their licence reference number is 39372. Also, if you’re quite old school and like to interact with companies via paper and pen then you can write to them at: Betway Limited, PO Box 70417, London, NW1W 7LN.
