Manager Red Cards Do Not Count In Red Card Betting Markets

referee holding a red cardOver the last couple of decades, we have seen in fairly increasing numbers, managers be given red cards in football matches – usually for dissent and, as a result, this means that they get suspended for a certain period of time depending on the severity of the offence.

As such, this means that they are suspended from being on the touchline, the dressing room and having any part in the game whatsoever.

It is important to note that if you bet on a there being a red card during a game though and it is the manager that gets sent off, this does not count.  You can bet on managers to be sent off in separate markets but if you bet on a red card in a game as a single or part of a bet builder and a manager (or coach or any other non-playing staff) are sent off then this will not count towards the bet.

Of course, there are many examples of famous managers that have been sent off in games over the years and below we have gone into more detail about this.

Jose Mourinho

Arguably the most notable manager for receiving red cards and a repeat offender. Few can argue with the passion that the Portuguese manager has for the game and usually, his behaviour is more often tactical.

As such, he will attempt as much as he can to draw attention away from his players and protect them from being punished through the behaviour that he exhibits.

One notable occasion was when he was in charge of Serie A side AS Roma, when he was sent off for dissent during a game. He received a two-match ban and a considerable fine. During his two-year spell at Roma, he was given five red cards in total.

Jurgen Klopp

This was out of character for Klopp, though the nature of the game saw his emotions boil over. As a result, he received a one-match suspension and a fine, with the FA reporting that his behaviour was deemed to be unacceptable.

Mikel Arteta

Over the last few years the Arsenal coach has earned a reputation for his touchline behaviour, though similar to Mourinho, the consensus is that he does this to draw attention away from his players.

In 2022, the Spaniard was sent off during one game, though on this occasion, he was warned and given a hefty fine, with the FA indicating that future incidents would lead to more severe punishments.

Diego Simeone

The fiery Argentine is known for his passionate coaching style, with the long-term Atletico Madrid boss making a name for himself due to his touchline behaviour over the years.

In 2018, Simeone was sent off during the Champions League semi-final for improper conduct against a match official after he sent a derogatory insult his way. UEFA gave a him a four match touchline ban as a result which saw him miss some key games at the business end of the season.

Carlo Ancelotti

The usually calm Italian coach, was famously awarded a one-match ban and a fine in 2020 while in charge of Everton for his behaviour against an official following a controversial decision during a match against Manchester United.
